Catherine Z. Wiseman
1945 - 2023
Longmeadow
Loving mother, sister, friend, and educator, Catherine "Kate" Wiseman passed peacefully at home with many family and friends present. Born in Springfield, MA, she was the daughter of the late Margaret and Aldo Zarlengo. She was raised on Tyler St in Springfield and subsequently Dorothy St. in West Springfield. Catherine graduated from West Springfield High School and then went to UMass Amherst where she majored in Spanish and was a member of Chi Omega sorority and Phi Beta Kappa. After college, she raised her family in Longmeadow, MA. She was employed for several years at Longmeadow Flowers. Starting in the early 1990s she worked in the Longmeadow school system, first in a student support role and then as a Spanish teacher at the high school until she retired. She enjoyed reading, flowers, and she had a knack for fixing things. One of her most cherished possessions was a Magic Chef double oven from 1972 that is still functional. She spent time in Spain during college and returned there several times over the years with students from the high school. She especially enjoyed Barcelona. She enjoyed spending time at the Fannie Stebbins Wildlife Refuge in Longmeadow. Her two biggest loves were her family and helping others. The number of family, friends, and students she helped through the years is countless. She leaves behind her son Richard Wiseman and his wife Kathryn. Her daughter Stephanie Wiseman Galpin and her husband Mark. Her son Michael Wiseman and his wife Jacquelyn Booth. She also leaves behind her sisters, Margo Cambier and her husband Erik, Annie Cuddy and her husband Don, and Gina Ohanesian and her husband Mark. Additionally, she leaves 4 loving grandchildren: Matthew Wiseman, Abigail Wiseman, Eleanor "Kai" Wiseman and Jacob Wiseman. She also leaves 4 nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Monday at 10:00am followed by burial in St. Michael's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 2:00 – 5:00pm.
