Cathryn Jennifer (Heiser) McClelland of Prairie Village, KS, formerly of Campbell, was born on Monday, Sept. 4, 1978, in Poplar Bluff, MO and died on Monday, July 22, 2019, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center/Advent Health in Overland Park, KS at the age of 40.
The daughter of Lorraine (Rietman) Heiser and the late James Heiser, Cathy graduated from Campbell High School in 1996 and went on to graduate from Southwest Missouri State University, where she earned a B.S. degree in Human Resources in 2000. She completed a one year internship with City Year before joining Walgreen's Inc. as a member of their management team. She stayed in management with them for 10 years before deciding to make a career change. Cathy enrolled in Baker School of Nursing in Topeka, KS, where she graduated with a BSN degree in December of 2014. During her nursing career, she worked in post-surgical units at Stormont-Vail and Lawrence Memorial Hospitals both in Kansas. She also taught briefly first year nursing students in their clinicals at Stormont-Vail. Most recently, she was employed as a nurse by Children's Mercy Hospital in their Ortho Outpatient Clinic.
Helping others was who Cathy was in life and in death. She was a registered organ donor and upon her death, she was able to give at least six people the gift of a longer and better quality of life. She is our true hero. On Oct. 13, 2007, Cathryn was united in marriage to Frank Vincent McClelland, who survives of the home in Prairie Village, KS. She also leaves behind her two young children, Joel Davis and Amelia Caroline McClelland, also of the home, her mother, Lorraine Heiser of Campbell; two sisters, Loretta Jane (Janie) Cook and husband, Jeremy of Bartlett, TN. and Rebecca Jean (Becky) Schatz and husband, Bob, of Kansas City, MO; one brother, James William (Jim) Heiser and wife, Bridget, of Campbell; six nieces, Elissa Brooks of Memphis, TN., Kersten and Bethany Schatz, both of Kansas City, MO., Kaitlen and Ashlen Cook, both of Bartlett, TN. and Hattie Heiser of Campbell; four nephews, Corey and Joshua Cook, both of Millington, TN., and Liam and Jonas Heiser, both of Campbell; her mother-in-law, Nancy McClelland of Independence, MO, many other extended family members and countless friends and coworkers. Cathy's family and her friends were very important to her and she loved and cherished them all dearly.
In addition to her father, Cathryn was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, William (Bill) and Henrietta (Kekeis) Rietman and her paternal grandparents, Waldo (Wally) and Ruby Jewel (Judy) (Hinkle) (Heiser) Harris.
Visitation was held at Landess Funeral Home of Campbell on Friday, Aug.2, 2019, from 6 to 8 p.m., with Rosary at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019 at 10 a.m., at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Glennonville, MO with Father William Hennecke officiating. Burial followed in St. Teresa Cemetery.

Cathy was my best friend our freshman and sophomore year! She was so smart and she inspired me to work harder in school. I remember when she was hired at Hardees our sophomore year. Shortly I started working there too. Unlike me, she saved all of her earnings for college.
