Cecelia B. (Matys) Matras, a life-long resident of Chicopee, passed away on August 30, 2023, at the age of 97. She was born in Holyoke on July 15, 1926, a daughter to the late Adolph and Bertha (Romaniak) Matys. Cecelia graduated from Chicopee High School in 1943 and worked as a payroll clerk at the former Chicopee Manufacturing and Facemate companies. Together with her best friend and husband, the late Stanley F. Matras, she was also a registered "cuddler" for newborns at Baystate Hospital. She is survived by her children, Stanley P. Matras and his wife, Diane, Karen C. Provost-Mullin and her husband, Michael, and Mary Jane Matras, as well as her 6 grandchildren, Kathryn, Matthew, Tiffany, Alyssa, Kristina, and Casey, and 3 great-grandchildren. Cecelia also leaves her sisters-in-law, Doris, Kathy, and Irene, and her dear friend Frances. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was also predeceased by her brothers, Dan, Chester, Rudolph, Gundi, and her sister, Alice. All services for Cecelia will be held privately. Memorial contributions in Cecelia's name can be made to the Chicopee River Mills Senior Center, 5 West Main St., Chicopee, MA 01020. Corridan Funeral Home has been entrusted with handling the arrangements.
