West Shokan- Cecelia M. Scanlan of Rt. 28A West Shokan passed away peacefully Tuesday May 3, 2016 at Tenbroeck Commons Nursing Home in Lake Katrine. She was born April 3, 1932 daughter of the late Francis and Margaret Gilnagh Murphy. An area resident since 1965, she was the Secretary/Treasurer of the Singer-Denman Lumber Co. in Boiceville for many years. Cecelia was the devoted wife of Edward Scanlan for over forty years. He predeceased her in 1995. She had been an active volunteer for the American Cancer Society, the Olive Republican Club, and had enjoyed extensive worldwide travel. She had a terrific sense of humor, and had opened her home to many. Her Aunt Katie Gilnagh had been a survivor of the Titanic voyage. Cecelia was supportive of her church and her community. Surviving are her daughters: Cecelia Scanlan Williams of CA , Siobhan Scanlan of West Shokan, and Maura Scanlan and her husband Brent Forman of WA, and her son Kevin Scanlan of West Shokan. Two sisters: Johanna Donlon and Marguerite Staunton both of Ireland. Five grandchildren: Michael Scanlan, Briana Williams, Evan Puccini, Trey and Colin Forman. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by her husband Edward, and brothers Francis, Eugene, and Gerard. Her funeral procession will form on Saturday at 10am at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home, Main St. Phoenicia thence to the St. Augustine Chapel West Shokan where at 11am a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial in the family plot at the St. Francis de Sales Cemetery Rt. 28 Allaben. Friends will be received on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home. I am so saddened to hear of Ceil's passing. I have so many happy memories of times shared with John, Ed and Ceil. I remember such good times with family and friends in the West Shokan home and dinners at the Landmark.I will always remember and laugh about our trip to then Yugoslavia! My condolences to Cici, Kevin, Siobhan and Maura.
