Cecil BROWN Obituary

BROWN
Cecil Payne Brown, "CP", went home to his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 28, 2011 after a courageous battle with many health issues. CP was born in Repton, Alabama on November 29, 1922. He is preceded in death by two sons, John Payne and Michael Case Brown; his father, John Clarence Brown; mother, Abbigail; sister, Carol Johnson, and brother, Curtis.
88 years old, CP was a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He died at his home on his beloved "acres" on Louetta Road in Spring near Tomball. He is survived by his "good good helpmate" and life's soulmate of 65 years, wife Prudy; his son, Dr. George Thomas Brown and wife, Joan; daughter, Martha Campbell Brown Floyd and husband, Tim. He is also survived by six devoted grandsons, Marcus George Floyd and wife, Lisa, Micah James Floyd and girlfriend, Courtney Teichelman, Gregory Brown Floyd, Andrew Thomas Brown and wife, Holly, Aaron Joseph Brown and wife, Kayce, and Alex Clayton Brown, and by six beloved great-grandchildren, Christopher, Cathryn, and Morgan Floyd, as well as Ethan Smith, and Lila and Julia Brown. He is also survived by many in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
CP was a turret gunner on a Navy TBF in WWII in Squadron VC6 stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, and served from 1943 to 1945. It was while in the Navy that he met, as he described her, a beautiful nurse named Dorothy Prudence Campbell from Owingsville, Kentucky. They were married on September 30, 1945. He moved his wife and 4 children to Houston in 1956 to become a letter carrier and clerk at the Oak Forest Post Office. He worked there until his retirement in 1983. After his retirement, CP enjoyed life while selling farm equipment and vegetables. He was most proud of his six grandboys and six great-grandchildren, and his beagle hound "Duke". CP was an avid hunter and fisherman and was simply one of the best shots anyone had ever seen. He loved anything involving the outdoors and nature, including raising cattle, beautiful flowers, vegetable gardening, and sitting and watching it grow.
CP was ordained as a deacon at Oak Forest Baptist Church in 1961 and continued to serve his Lord at Lazybrook Baptist Church. A celebration of CP's life will be at Lazybrook Baptist Church, 1822 West 18th Street, Houston, Texas 77008 on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be at Heights Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 30, 2011. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Fund of Lazybrook Baptist Church. Prudy would like to thank family and friends, Rev. John Neesley, Dr. Zehra Kapotia, and Sunset Hospice for their love and support of her and CP.

I can hear Uncle Brown calling me "Tommy" in his Bamer/Texan accent. And, all my uncles and my dad arguing in my Gran's house in Olympia, about which make car was the best - I think Uncle Brown was a Dodge/Plymouth fan? He'll never really be "gone". "Tommy"
