Not sure what to say?

Mrs. Matheny was a lovely, genuine lady; a wonderful example of a living sermon. I enjoyed conversing with her in my younger years when she came to swim in my parent's pool. She made even a teenager feel at ease. A life very well lived, indeed.

Gran Matheny was very dear to me. We have many special memories especially our trip to England to visit Richard, Marjorie and their children. I remember having brunch with her and her mother,Great-Grandma Holloway in the big house before she died. She took me and my brother Shawn swimming many times at the Country Club when we would visit. I will never forget her beautiful african violets in her dining room planters. Gran Matheny took me to my first Anglican church service and to this day I...

It is the secret of the world that all things subsist and do not
die, but only retire a little from sight and afterwards return again.
Nothing is dead; men feign themselves dead, and endure mock funerals and mournful obituaries, and there they stand looking out of the window, sound and well, in some new strange disguise. Jesus is not dead; he is very well alive; nor John, nor Paul, nor Mahomet, nor
Aristotle; at times we believe we have seen them all, and could
easily...

I had the pleasure of knowing Mrs. Matheny, the last few months of her life. I was one a the CNA's from Hospice, that had the pleasure of visting and taking care of her 3 times per week. When I say pleasure it was a pleasure and rewarding experince. She shared many stories with me about her childhood, family, church and her personaly life. She would say come by when your not working and we will just visit. Unfortually I never got that chance that is one of the down falls of my job. The other is...

My mother was Sheila Lloyd, sister to Richard Lloyd, she was also in Knoxville. I have some wonderful memories of visiting with Aunt Cecil. One time I was asked to remove a very large spider from the bathroom without doing any harm to the spider! I also remember listening to many conversations of Knoxville history between Aunt Cecil and my Grandfather Parke L. Brown Sr. The world has lost a gracious, intelligent and beautiful person. Whenever I think of her I hear her lovely voice and...

Our love to the Matheny family. May God give you abundant joy, peace, happiness, serenity and love.

Much love from us to you,

I am so sorry to learn of Cecil's passing. She was like a second mother to me during my graduate studies at UT. I regret that family matters will prevent me from paying my respects in person. She was truly a saint.

Love to all,

Mother called me today to tell me of the passing of her dear friend, Cecil. How we loved her as we did her mother, Mrs. Holloway. She was like a grand-mother to me in so many ways. She and her mother always entertained my grand parents when they visited us from Sweden. We keep you all in our prayers, as Cecil has simply gone before us, and we shall soon meet again...With much love and sympathy...

I never met Mrs. Matheny but talked with her several times. She was a grand lady and shared her memories of Bleak House. I am the current president of Knoxville #89, United Daughters of the Confederacy. We truly share your grief.

Sincerely,
