Not sure what to say?

I didn't have Smiley in class but my homeroom was next to her class my junior year. I got to know her better when she worked at Notre Dame School and my children had her as she was the head of the Library, then a few years later she always came to Pittsfield every few months with a few of her sister, sisters to have lunch with another teacher who had been in a Nursing Home. There was always a bunch of us that took Sue out to eat.The the nuns that were her friends from Notre Dame always...

The world has lost one of the lovliest, kindest , nuns ever . All the kids in my class of '61 , loved " Smiley " , and we knew she loved every one of us . I talked with her at our 50th reunion and she said when she taught me as a jr. , she was only 19 yrs. old. That she loved being around us cause she was the youngest of 8 children , and missed her siblings so much, that we helped fill the void :) I know she went straight to heaven , and is happy . R.I.P. Beautiful Sr. Cecilia James.

Since Smiley was unable to come to our wedding, Mark & I made a stop at the convent at St Joe's immediately afterwards so she could share the love on our special day. Since that time, we have kept in touch each year through Christmas cards. I was fortunate to receive her beautiful card four weeks ago with her hand written note, "Blessings, Dee dear. Love, Sister C.J."
Rest In Peace, Lovely Lady. You'll be missed!

Remembering Sr. Cecilia James from my high school days at St. Joseph High School (Pittsfield, MA) brings a smile to my face.
Smiley, as she was referred to among her students, was a great educator and mentor as well as a warm, caring, compassionate human being. Her smile was contagious.
May you RIP, Smiley!

Margaret (Peggy) A. Fijal, '62 SJHS
