Celeste Louisa (Libbey) Lyons, died peacefully on Friday, (March 21, 2003) in Hartford. Born in her Bridgeport home on October 31, 1916 to Amelia Harrison and Ernest Linwood Libbey. Celeste lived a full and happy life in Bridgeport, Hartford, West Hartford and Glastonbury. Married in 1939 to the late Frederick Lyons, she loved family and career with nearly equal measure. In her youth she was an enthusiastic Girl Scout. After graduating from Warren Harding High School in 1933, she proudly found her first job at Remington Arms Manufacturing Company. She later worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for nearly thirty years, finding there great satisfaction and lasting friendships. Celeste joined Hartford's Immanuel Congregational Church in 1955, where she loved the music, served as a deacon, as a member of the Board of Christian Education, and as a delegate with the Partnership Conferences. With her husband she enjoyed dancing, vacations at Hawk's Nest Beach, and family gatherings. She baked a great apple pie. Left with her abundant love are her five children: Linwood with his wife Elaine and daughter Beverly of Moraga, California; Stewart with his wife Kaarina and sons, Teague and Davin of Guilford; Richard with his wife Elizabeth and their children Katharine, Andrew and James of New Haven; Bradford with his wife Inna and son Vladimir of Hamden; and daughter Janet Walker with her husband Robert and children Libbey and Greydon of Fairfield. She is also survived by her cousins and nieces and nephews. Celeste was predeceased by her sister, Ardelle Schiller and brother, Waldo Libbey. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Avery Heights, 705 New Britain Avenue on Saturday, April 5, at 10 a.m. A reception will follow the service. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Church Homes, Inc., or Hospice and Palliative Care of Connecticut, East Hartford. The Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
