Littleton, North Carolina - Celestine Rogers Beatty, 87, of Littleton, NC passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 2, 2022. She was born in and a longtime resident of Raleigh, NC. Mrs. Beatty, a 1952 graduate of Washington High School in Raleigh, in her youth, enjoyed swimming, water skiing, horseback riding, and was a majorette for her high school band. She went on to attend St. Augustine's College (University) in Raleigh for undergraduate studies where she became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Gamma Xi Chapter. She continued her studies at Howard University College of Pharmacy in Washington, DC, graduating with a B.S./Pharm.D. in 1958. She married the late Rev. Clyde E. Beatty, Jr. of Wilmington, NC shortly after graduation and had three children to their union, Clyde, III, Wayne, and Carolyn.
Mrs. Beatty was a homemaker for many years and was very active in her children's Parent Teacher Associations, a member of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. Raleigh-Wake Chapter, and worked part-time as a substitute teacher for Wake County Public School System. In the early 70s she began her career as a registered Pharmacist working at Hamlin Drug Store, Wake Medical Center (Wake Med), in Raleigh, NC, and as a Travel Pharmacist for Eckerd Drugs Co./Rite Aid at various store locations in NC and VA. She also served as a member of the Wake County Health and Human Services Board in the mid-80s and was a member of Brooks Avenue Church of Christ in Raleigh, NC. She enjoyed traveling with her family and sisters, gardening, growing plants, and loved all types of sports.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Clyde E. Beatty, Jr.; father and mother, Ulysses and Delia Williams Rogers; sisters, Beatrice (Bea) R. Hamlin, Azalia R. Cowan, Elma R. Bevineau, Geraldine (Tina) R. Hoover; and brothers, Ulysses, Jr. (Brother), Harold, and James (Sonny); and survived by her children, sons, Clyde E. Beatty, III (Valerie) of Littleton, NC, Rev. Dr. Wayne E. Beatty (Brenda) of Wake Forest, NC, and daughter, Carolyn Beatty Dumas, of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Sarah, Wayne II, Sean, Jazmine, Christian, Ethan, Taylor, and Paige; great-grandson, Kasch (little fellow); beloved sister-in-law, Edith Beatty of Wilmington, NC; nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A private burial service will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery in Raleigh, NC.
