Not sure what to say?

I had the privilege of getting to know Jo and John in the mid-1960s, when they were just "spring chickens", before they became parents. She was a real live wire; beautiful, intelligent, witty, and very gracious to everyone who visited in her home. Seeing the spirited, loving, but never subservient give-and-take between the two of them was a wonderful example for a young couple just starting out together. John, amigo, lo siento mucho para ti, tus hijos, y todo la familia; pero, recuerdes...

John, I'm so sorry for your loss. Please know that my thoughts are with you and your family in your time of sorrow. Peace,

John,

Even though Jo didn't dance salsa like you did the years que la conoci, I could tell her heart was dancing. Your destino and hers was a big one, and this must be why you got each other for such a long, and too-short of a time. Her defiant grace, her smile, and her love for you and the rest of us was an inspiration, and she will not be forgotten. May she be dancing salsa now...

John, William & Charles;
I knew Jo for no less than 35 or more years. While we didn't always agree on issues, we did agree that the movement for a more just and humane world was necessary!
She was a friend, companera and the wife of a dear friend. She will be missed by all of us!

Dear John and family,
Jo was always so kind-hearted and yet fiercely determined. You were a perfect pair in your mutual passion for justice. She will be missed by all who had even a few conversations with her. Our prayers and thoughts are with you.

Juancho,
My condolences to your family-- while I was not in San Antonio for too many of Jo's activities in earlier years, I enjoyed and miss her beautiful spirit. I will miss the June 21 life celebration at Pa'tilKali but we'll add her Mother's Day tribute to our community altar at Meadowlark where I will be. There too, she will be in good company...Kamala

John, I am deeply sorry to hear of your loss. I will always sit remembering the beauty of the two of you dancing and sharing stories at the Esperanza. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you through your journey. Love, Anel I. Flores

Dear John and family,

My sincere condolences on the passing of Jo. I truly admired this very talented and intelligent woman. She will be greatly missed. I look forward to seeing you on the 21st.

Sincerely, Annalisa Peace (San Antonio, Texas)
