When the phone rang during University of Florida games, Ken Lake always knew who was on the other end. His son, Chad. "Typical Chad was to call me when there was a football game going on," the elder Lake said. The two would discuss the progress of the game, especially how the Gators were doing. "He was a very easygoing, lovable guy," said his mother, Debbie Farr. "He was a wonderful son. We were very close." Chad W. Lake, 26, of Ocala, Fla., died Feb. 13 in Balad when his vehicle overturned into a canal. He was stationed at Fort Stewart. It was Lake's second combat assignment in the Iraq conflict and third trip to the area since joining the Army about a year after his 1996 high school graduation. He had also served in Germany, Macedonia and Bosnia, among other places. Lake was an athlete of average skills but blessed with a lot of heart, football coach John Pilcher said of his one-time defensive back. He was "one of those kids you have to have in there," Pilcher said. He also is survived by his stepfather, Worthy Farr. "He loved his country and he loved his family," said his father.

Not sure what to say?

I didn´t know Chad, however I´m at North Marion High School´s baseball feel and saw a sign that is in memory of him. I was born in 1978 as well and I did research on him. He seemed like a generous young man. RIH

To the family and friends of Sgt. Chad W. Lake:
It has truly been my honor to sign Chad's guest book these past few years. Unfortunately, due to complications from my Multiple Sclerosis, this may be the last message I'm able to write. Please forgive me and know that Chad will always be remembered in my home.
With love and respect ~ Peggy

Was he related to Roy Leonard Lake, Sr.? I am very sorry for your loss. He is a hero and I am sending prayers to your family.

One more year of this angel soaring high in the heavens above us looking down on those that love him. I hope that your love has helped heal their pain.
Much love to Sgt.Lake's fiends and family today and every day.

To the family and friends of Sgt. Chad W. Lake:
Always remembering Chad. "Some gave all."

I served with Chad from 200-2003. I can honestly say he was a good man to know and be around. He was laid back and calm. I was just days home from my 2nd deployment in 2004 to Iraq when I learned of his death. Thank you Chad for showing me how to remain calm under pressure and laugh at even the dumbest stuff. I miss you buddy.

To the family and friends of Sgt. Chad W. Lake:
Please accept my remembrance of Chad on the anniversary of his passing and know that he will never be forgotten.
