Charlie and I came to Grand Valley at the same time. He was one of the smartest men I ever met. So well-read and knowledgable without putting on any aires. He will be missed.

Condolences to Charlie's family. I worked with Charlie at GVSU for 12 years as both a student and staff member in HTM. He was such a generous and thoughtful man. He brought back rosaries from the Vatican for my mom and I from his last Italy study abroad trip, and I'll always remember him for that. I'll also always fondly remember the delicious baked goods he'd frequently bring to the office to share. Sending prayers to Susan and the family. Rest peacefully, Charlie.

Charlie was the instructor for International Food and Culture - a class I took at GVSU in 2011. He was always cheerful and kind. One time, he made us authentic Italian lasagna and it was delicious. I enjoyed his class and being a student of his. Peace and love, Charlie!
