Dr. Charles Warriner Barnes

I was one of the thousands of young people whose lives were touched by Charlie Barnes. Words can't describe the tremendous influence he had on me and so many of my colleagues at the University of Alabama in the 1950's.

We always enjoyed each other's sense of humor. Once, when I was contemplating the economic aspects of getting married, I asked him, "Charlie, is it true that two people can live as cheaply as one?" "Yes", he replied, "but only half as long!"
