Not sure what to say?

My condolences to the Bernard family. Chuck and I were good friends in the first grade and I spent the night a couple of times at his house. One time someone asked him what his favorite show was. Of course he answered,"My dads..."

What a wonderful, deeply caring, intellectual man! Charles was a true gentleman with the kindest heart. He always said the nicest things about my mother Sue. I am forever grateful for knowing him and am keeping his whole family in my thoughts.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

I am Ellen Bernard Maben's son. On behalf I want to extend sympaphy to your family. My mother enjoyed her visits with Charles.

I was honored to know Charles through our shared service on the Portland Local Board of AFTRA, one of the unions he so loved. He was committed to working with and for his colleagues in the industry to promote decent wages and safe working conditions. He was an inspiration and guide to those of us who looked to him for his compassion and wisdom. His example is a big part of the caring culture of the union family that exists today in Portland. Rest well, my friend. You will be deeply missed.

Thinking of you, Charles, and all the good times that we shared.
