Not sure what to say?

A quote from a fighter pilot's song in memory of the finest officer I ever worked for. “So here’s a nickel on the grass to you, my friend, and your spirit, enthusiasm, sacrifice and courage – but most of all to your friendship. Yours is a dying breed and when you are gone, the world will be a lesser place.”

I wore Captain Boyds POW bracelet for years. My Dad was in the Airforce for 22 years, and two of my sons also served, one for 24 years. We lived in Okinawa during the Vietnam war and when I returned to the states, I proudly wore my bracelet. My friends Dad, Major Fredrick Dauten was shot down and died bringing supplies to the troops, so this was a time that I will never forget. I just searched General Boyd and saw that he had passed away. I was so sad that I was never able to reach out to him...

He was. Hero!

I, Charles´s cousin, was unable to attend his funeral being ill with Covid at the time and belatedly write in this forum. Charles was five years younger than I but we were children, more like siblings than cousins. It was a very close extended family in the expansive farmlands of Central Iowa, residually recovering from the Great Depression. We, as a family grieved deeply when he came up missing not knowing if he was dead or alive, and then through his lengthy and painful imprisonment....

Hello,

My sincere condolences to the Boyd Family even after all these years. My father Robert and I are both Air Force veterans. My father passed away recently and I discovered a POW remembrance band in his drawer. It is stamped "Capt Charles Boyd 4-22-66", the date (then Capt) Boyd was shot down. There is no listing for a Capt Boyd on the Vietnam Virtual Wall. If this is your loved one's "never forget" band I would very much like to return it to you. Sometimes God winks at us,...

General Charles G. Boyd's singular capabilities as a Balkan intelligence analyst so influenced my own career(s). His analytical and perceptive observations of the complicated Balkans conflicts, so bravely delineated in his article Marking Peace With The Guilty (and later, Making Bosnia Work -- a year after I covered the post-war Dayton process) -- helped steer my own direction as a foreign correspondent, and later, strategic and source intelligence analyst, specializing in Mexico and...

General Boyd was the most humble of men. I worked at Fauquier Airport and filled his plane when needed. He was a true Gentleman. How a man put through hell during the war, could be so kind and uplifting. He is truely with God.
General: Thank you for your service to our country.

General Boyd was one of the greatest leaders Ive ever known. I served as his enlisted aide as the Commander of Air University Maxwell Air Force Base Alabama. General Boyd was the true essence of a genuine leader.....the world has lost a great leader.

Major Jason E. Glenn

I served as General Boyd's Executive Officer when he was at Headquarters Eighth Air Force and again worked for him when he was the Air University Commander. He was a truly amazing man and it was a true honor to work for and with a true American hero. He was a great boss and mentor and he will truly be missed!
