Not sure what to say?

Mr. Capps, was a man of self conviction and took an incredible interest in me as a very young man as I contribute my success in life from this mans honest willingness to keep me on the correct path. To that I hold this man in the highest regard of a true and honest man.

When I read this "last call" for Charlie Capps' book of memories, I thought I would comment about how he stuck to his convictions and refused to work on Sundays. (Then I realized that's exactly what Pat said)...How he retired from Publix because of Sunday openings. Also I remember how hard it was for "Mr. George" to make that decision. To my knowledge I do not believe Mr. Capps even told him why he was retiring, but we knew why without him saying a word. I well remember that Mr. George...

Remembering back over the years, Mr. Capps was one gentleman who "walked his talk" with no exceptions. Working with him was a great privilege and when he retired from Publix because of Sunday Openings, my heart was heavy seeing him leave the company, but at the same time, my heart was blessed to know he stood up to his convictions like we all should who love the Lord.

He was a great man! Many of our loved ones are now walking and talking with our Lord.

A gentleman is a pleasure to
describe. A gentleman is one who leaves a glow of appreciation on
everyone who meets him—even his competitors and rivals. He is fair, and just to the right degree, he is cheerful. He is unshakably honest. He believes in mankind; he makes men proud to be men and
women grateful to be women. Above all, he is, as his title
suggests, ‘gentle’. A gentleman is gentle, in all the best sense of the word, which means primarily, voluntarily kind and...

Mr. Capps gave me my first job emptying out the bottle cart at old number 4. It was a relationship that has lasted for 57 years. He was a great boss and friend.

In our years with Publix Dave and I were fortunate to have known Mr. Capps and to be considered his friends. What an honor that was for us! He was such a special person. His high morals and true Christian life impacted all those who came in contact with him. Dave says he was a great boss. He will surely be missed.

I had a lot of pleasant dealings with Mr. Capps during my first eleven years with Publix. I specifically remember once when I arranged for him, Pete Newsome and Hubert Collins to visit with "Mr. George", after his stoke. It was "Such a pleasure"... to see these four great men visiting and so happy". A good man; he will truly be missed by many. Most sincerely,

In my early years as stock clerk Mr. Capps told me because of my small physical stature I would have to excel as an individual to suceed . I did, and retired as Store Manager after 18 years of service. Thanks for the challenge and inspiration.
