I first met Charlie when we were both residents of Greenville, IL-- he, in elementary school and I in college. I worked in Beaumont Grocery where his parents shopped and my parents owned. Charlie, known as Chuck, would often stop by the store. That was many years ago, Years later when my wife and I moved to Spring Arbor, I became reacquainted with Charlie and his wife Jan who had, also, been a Greenville resident. Even though our contacts were few, It was good to know Charlie and hear...

Jan, I am so saddened to hear of Charlie's passing. Your love for each other was so evident and immense. I first worked with you at Warner and then took a class from Charlie at Spring Arbor University. What a wonderful teacher he was. Kind and a "true teacher", very much like yourself. He is in a grand place with our Lord and Savior. He will always be with you until you meet again. I am sending a big hug. With love, Lisa (Schenkel) Jones

Charlie was loved by everyone who knew him. A true academic and scholar, he was also kind and interested in people and in experiencing life to its fullest. He and Jan were truly made for each other--fun-loving, congenial, and perfect hosts, always ready to share a good time with friends. He will be missed.
