He was the beloved husband of the late Eleanor Margaret (Heinz) Carpenter to whom he was married in Wrentham, Massachusetts on April 11, 1953 and who died on August 4, 2006.

Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts on July 8, 1923, he was a son of the late Charles R. Carpenter, Sr. and Rosamond (Cook) Carpenter. He was raised and educated in Attleboro where he was a 1941 graduate of Attleboro High School.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the World War II era.

A lifelong resident of the City of Attleboro, Mr. Carpenter was employed as a dispatcher for Texas Instruments in Attleboro for 33 years prior to his retirement in 1986.

He was a longtime member of Murray Unitarian-Universalist Church in Attleboro.

A proud veteran, he was a member of the American Legion Post 20 in Attleboro. He truly treasured the time spent with his grandchildren.

Mr. Carpenter enjoyed watching television and reading; however, his truest satisfaction came from helping others. Subscribing to this philosophy, he served as the ombudsman for Bristol Elder Services since 1988 and often visited residents at local nursing homes to ensure high levels of service and care for residents.

He leaves three daughters: Mary-Ellyn Popowich of North Kingstown, Rhode Island; Martha A. Lawton of South Attleboro and Sara J. Kass of Attleboro; six grandchildren: Stephen, Michael and David Popowich all of North Kingstown, Rhode Island; Patrick C. Lawton of South Attleboro and Lewis F. and Olivia L. Not sure what to say?

Dear Carpenter Family,
Your Mom and Dad were amazing people and gave so much to everyone in town. Both of your parents set a high standard for the rest of us on how to be good parents and people. Your Dad always helped out my elder relatives when they needed a kind word. Your Mom was the one who knew the right thing to say to anyone having a rough day, from my own little children to complete strangers. I will always associate them with Christmastime, too, as they really knew how to enjoy...

MaryEllen, Martha, Sara and families, I remember being small and so excited that Santa was coming to OUR house. A special trip, just for us! He brought many hugs with him that evening, and left countless smiles and joy within the children of 20 Hodges St. May our beautiful memories of Charlie bring us all peace at this sad time.

Our thoughts remain with you and your family at this time. We are honored by the trust and confidence you have placed in us during this difficult time.
