Markiewicz Funeral Home, P.C. - Lemont Obituary

Charles (Charlie) Edward Wickey, 68, of Lemont, Illinois was welcomed home by our Lord on October 27, 2024, after a courageous 10-month battle with metastatic sarcoma which he fought until the very end.
Charlie was born on September 5, 1956, in Chicago to Charles and Lorraine Wickey. The youngest of four siblings, Charlie always brought a special joy to the hearts of anyone he met.  At a young age, Charlie developed a love for baseball, especially his beloved Chicago White Sox. Everywhere Charlie went, baseball followed. If it wasn’t a painted strike zone on the side of a building or a Chicago alley, it never stopped.
After attending both Resurrection and St. Genevieve Catholic grade schools, Charlie graduated from Archbishop Weber High school in 1974 where he was a member of the baseball team. After a brief stop at Loyola University and Triton College, He continued his education at Benedictine University in Lisle where he was also a member of the baseball team and earned a degree in accounting.  Accounting and numbers made up the bulk of his professional career as a CPA working as a staff accountant, comptroller and IT/SAP analyst.  Charlie just retired after 40 plus years in the financial industry working for companies such as Nichols-Homeshield, David C Cook Publishing, Mahle, and most recently Haworth Furniture.
As accomplished as his professional career was, Charlie’s most rewarding role was a family man.  Married to his bride and love of his life, Jeanne, for over 43 years, Charlie and Jean led by example.  As a father of five children, Charlie was enthusiastically involved in each one of his children’s lives. When Charlie was not coaching his sons’ little league teams or taking his daughters to dance lessons, he was active in the community. Charlie was a founding member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Aurora, Illinois and was a member of the men’s club, Knights of Columbus and manager of the church softball team. Charlie was a baseball coach in the Wheatland Athletic Association where he touched so many lives and became a role model to many.   In 2004, Charlie ultimately took a job transfer and moved his family to Grand Haven, Michigan.  In Grand Haven, Charlie was an active member at St. Patrick’s Church until he led his family back to Illinois in 2018. He settled in Lemont at Saints Cyril and Methodius Parish.
Charlie was an avid Chicago White Sox fan and source of baseball trivia. He never missed a game, whether TV or radio, and got his long-awaited World Series Championship in 2005.  Charlie’s fandom has been instilled to his children and grandchildren.
Charlie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend to many. He is survived by his wife Jeanne and five adult children: Eric (Cathy) Wickey, Kathleen Distasio (Dominick), Mary Stevens (Justin), Michael Wickey (Rachel Otfinoski), and John Wickey. Charlie was blessed with seven grandchildren: Caius, Carter, Vincent, Noah, Caelum, Viviana and is preceded in death by his granddaughter Willow Grace. Charlie was greeted in heaven by his parents Charles and Lorraine, his granddaughter Willow and his in-laws Harry and Mary Brejcha.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, from 3 - 8 p.m. at Markiewicz Funeral Home, PC, 108 Illinois Street, Lemont, IL 60439. Funeral Mass will take place at 11a.m., on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church located at 608 Sobieski Street, Lemont, IL 60439.  Interment will be held privately.

Sox, Cubs today from the shrine as you used to call it lol. Sox just won 2 series in a row, lets see if they can keep the momentum going this weekend. MLB just lifted the ban on Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe, so I wonder how many other 1919 Sox will get in. As we close in on 7 months, you are truly missed and loved Dad, just glad you aren't suffering anymore, cause you fought like hell! Please continue to look down on us as you always do. Love you and Go Sox!

Hi Dad, I've been missing you a lot lately. All I want is to see your smiling face and hear your voice one more time. The kids miss you, Vivi asks where papa is everyday and Vinny, man you would be proud of him, he's doing so well in school and turning into such a baseball fanatic like you. Opening day is next week, I know you'll be watching from the heavens. Love you.
