Charles Richard Colip (also lovingly referred to as Dad, Granddad, Dick, Richard, and Charlie) peacefully passed away on July 19, surrounded by his family at his home in Anderson. He was 90 years young.
Born on August 13, 1919 in Perkinsville, Indiana, Charles lived a long and laughter filled life. After serving as a captain in the Army with the Anti-Aircraft Artillery stationed in the South Pacific in World War II, he returned to live in Muncie with his wife of 69 years, Naomi Ruth Colip. The last 54 years were spent in Anderson. Prior to his retirement in 1976, Charles worked for Anderson Bank and Indian Farm Bureau Insurance. He finished his working career at General Motors' Guide Lamp plant as a Foreman.
Some of his proudest moments revolved around victories of a more domestic kind. He was a sharp card player and loved the annual holiday Euchre tournaments with family. He came away with the trophy tile on several occasions. The family will always remember his booming voice asking "why in the heck did you play that card?" He was also an avid golfer, and spent many a day at Killbuck cursing the little white ball. He loved to travel with his wife and family, having taken trips to Hawaii, Arizona, California, Oregon, Texas and Florida.
Charles is survived by a remarkably close family. His wife, Naomi, and children, Gary (Judy), Steven (Angie), Kevin (Patti), and Cindy (Chris). He is also survived by his sister, Bette McClarnon of Greenfield. His loving grandchildren include Jon, Lindsay, Hadley, Kodi, Brady, Cheyanne, Sean and Charlie.
A viewing will be held from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Thursday, July 22 at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home.
A private graveside service will be held at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery, conducted by Pastor Larry Smith, of Rigdon Methodist Church.
The family is deeply appreciative of the care and support provided by Nurse Mary Durazo and Chaplain Robert Lim of Nightingale Hospice, and special family friend Michelle Connell.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mr. Colip's name to Rigdon Methodist Church.
