One summer, I took piano lessons from Mr. Cooper. It was the best summer of my life. I'd been taking lessons for two years, but it wasn't until I met Mr. Cooper that I learned how to play the piano. Any enjoyment I ever got from playing music was all because of Mr. Cooper. He was a great man. And, I dropped in on him at his studio in Homewood a few years before he passed, and he welcomed me with open arms. It was so great to see him again. Harrison Cooper was my piano teacher in the mid 60s, While I lived in Birmingham. I'm forever grateful for all he taught me . I've been a full time professional musician all my life, traveled the world, and performed with many legends of Jazz, Blues, and Pop music. Thank you Mr. Cooper for your inspirations.

My memories of "Harrison Cooper's Country Club Orchestra" go back to 1944. At that time, the infamous "Bull" Conner decreed that there should be dances for the (white) high school students of Birmingham's "Big Five High Schools".
