Ardmore, Oklahoma
Charles Edward Dabbert Charles Edward Dabbert, age 90, went to his Heavenly rest on August 21, 2022, in Southlake, Texas. Child of God, faithful husband, sacrificial father, loving grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Charles was a resident of Ardmore, Oklahoma, for sixty-eight years and a blessing to all who knew him. Charles was born in McAlester, Oklahoma, on October 24, 1931 to the late Offley Leeds and Frances Norma Dabbert (nee Cain). After graduating from McAlester High School, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from East Central University in 1954 and a Masters of Education from Oklahoma University in 1964. Between 1954 and 1962, he served in both reserve and active capacities in the U.S. Army. Having moved to Ardmore in 1954, he served Ardmore Public Schools for 42 years. Charles was wed to Dana Lee Porter of Marietta on October 7, 1960, and they were happily married for nearly 51 years, parted only by Dana's passing on August 9, 2011. Building a home of family and faith, Charles was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church since 1977. Charles' dedication to education included leadership in youth corps, integration and other federal programs with the Department of Labor but centered around his love of the classroom. This spirit of learning flows actively in the lives of his descendants, with all of his children and grandchildren college-educated and a professor and several teachers among them. In addition to being readily recognized around Ardmore by generations of those he taught, Charles volunteered with the local food bank and traveled with and supported multiple global missions efforts. Charles was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 51 years, Dana Lee Dabbert (nee Porter); He is survived by a brother, Tom (Mary Lou) Dabbert of Arlington, Texas; children, daughter Jana (Doug) Jones of Arlington, Texas, son Dr. Brad (Marla) Dabbert of Lubbock; grandchildren, Graham (Bethany) Jones, Audra Jones, Olivia Jones, Madeline Dabbert, Colton Dabbert; and great-grandson, Luke Jones.
