Charlie was a dear and good friend. Just found out he is no longer with us and am remembering when we met - Charleston, WV at the Women's Center. He later provided a scholarship to help me finish my degree and while they were on vacation I had the delight of house sitting for them in Charleston for a month.
Visited him in Boston when I came up to see my parents, almost made it to Rome when he was there - and we last met in the 80s when he was already living in Boston.
Learned much from him and have fond memories. Thank you Charlie.

At a dinner party, I asked Charlie additional questions concerning his published religious opus, of magnitude; and any follow-up thoughts that he would now add. He said, since it took him 10 years to write, he had assured himself there was more to say. However, there was another book swirling around.
During the above wonderful dinner, the topic of the Top 100 literary, literature books,in any genre,in any language, from beginning of time, would he replace a book on the list. He pondered, smiled, and spoke a 20 minute soliloquy, about obscura. I was so excited then, and have been excited since that moment. I had just listened to a great scholar.
What a terrible, terrible loss. He was truly unique, exceptional and gracious. Most men can be replaced...Charlie...not.
He and I shall meet, again, as part of our Pilgrim's Progress.

Charlie's erudite wisdom and gracious demeanor has always inspired us to excel in our lives. We will miss his laughter and warmth but his spirit will always be a part of us. May God forever bless him. With great affection and admiration...Tamara and Charles Davis

Charlie was a sweet man whose love of the Lyric Stage was an enormous help to its growth and was very instrumental in building its home in Copley Square, Boston. We so enjoyed the many times we met him and Joanne at the theatre. We will always remember his warm and lovely smile. Our sympathies go out to Joanne and Ted. May your memories of Charlie lessen the pain of your loss.
With love,
