Read MoreI first met Jim after the merger of Wien and Northern Consolidated in 1968. Our paths never crossed again after the airline went out of business in 1984. He was among the best of the many pilots who served the people of Alaska with distinction and safety. He was admired by all that knew him for his humor and sense of duty. He has flown a good flight and I wish him well on his final flight West.

My father, Tom Sr., was the Wien station manager at Nome and Kotzebue, a mayor, and head of the Guard in the early '50s. The airline people always made sure the village churches had Christmas boxes. Jim was one of the searchers when Tom Sr.'s charter went missing. At the time, the largest search before the Begich/Boggs operation. I am Jerry Chastine son of Rosemary Chastine she was Bills half sister. Please accept moms and the rest of the families condolences to your family. Growing up we heard the stories of the bush pilot in the family. It sounds as if Charles lived life to its fullest. Bless y'all.
