Charles Hammond

Charles Smith Hammond 75, of Erie, Pennsylvania transitioned on October 29,2023 at St. Vincent
Hospital. He was born in Elba, Alabama on April 8,1948 to the late John and Ada Hammonds. After
relocating at an early age to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Charles graduated from Westinghouse High School
in 1967.
After graduating he joined the United States Army, where served in the Vietnam war and tested and
approved all fuel for military war planes. After receiving an honorary discharge from the military, he
attended school to become an Electronic Technician. He retired from General Electric in Erie as an
Electrical Technician after many years of hard work.
Charles attended Second Baptist Church. He served as a Deacon, in the choir, and did missionary work
visiting the sick and the shut in. He enjoyed studying the Bible with his family, spending time with his
family, and his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a true provider to his family. He will be truly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Ada Hammonds, wife Diann Hammond, daughter
Marjorie Chavonne Hammond, sister Cordelia" Tiny" Hammonds, brothers Donald Hammond and Harold
Hammond.
He is survived by son Charles Juron Hammond, Brother to John Hammonds Jr., Leonard Hammonds Sr.
(Darisea), Katie Barksdale (Doug), Frank Hammond Sr. (Shawna), Evita" Neicy" Hammond (Michael),
Douglas Hammond (Stacey), Marvin Hammond, Richard Hammonds (Pamela), Virginia Howard, Anita
Hammond, and Cynthia Hammond (Melvin). He was the loving son in law to Margaree Shaw, and
brother in law to Ronnie L. Shaw. He was also an uncle to a host of nieces and nephews, and a friend to many.
