Not sure what to say?

Dear Mary Lou and Family,
For more than 10 years, a time that now seems so short, we had the opportunity to know you and Chuck. Our times together were among the things we remember most fondly as we cooked together, dined together and shared the events of our families as children grew and careers progressed. Though we have lost touch as each of our lives moved forward, we will remember Chuck as the man whose ...

Dearest Mary Lou,
I've been away and upon returning I was saddened to hear of your husband's passing. I'm sorry I didn't get to meet him. Your life with him seemed full and happy, what a blessing that was. He will be closer to you now than ever before. My love and prayers go with you as you celebrate his life and your life with him.

Mary Lou
The last ND reunion is my highlight memory of Chuck. We sat together at a long dinner, and I grabbed that seat because I enjoyed talking to him at previous reunions. We left hoping to someday work on our golf games as we worked fewer hours on other things. In just this small way I feel your loss. Let Marion and me know if we can ever be of help.

Dear Friends, you are in our thoughts as you begin your new life without your dear husband and father. Please know that your family is an important part of many happy memories from Boston College days with Kai and Meghan.

As a 7 year member of the 200 Club (Commuter Club) I spent many hours chatting with Chuck. He always greeted his fellow commuters with a big smile. I am left with a very special memory of him.

To the Hartman Family,
I first met the Hartman's in September of 1985 when I began my Freshman year at Boston College with Kai. Who knew then that I had made a lifelong friend with a very classy Dad? Chuck was a favorite of us BC women. He took us to very nice dinners and taught us the finer points of drinking adult beverages. I shared my first taste of venison with Chuck. He always had a kind word, a boost of encouragment, and a warm smile. He left this world they way he lived in it:...

Mrs. Hartman,

I went to grade school with Jeff and spent many afternoons at your home after school. I remember seeing Mr. Hartman at soccer games (which Jeff was very good at) and always feeling welcomed when I and Richie Phelan and Brian Rothman would get together with Jeff at your house.

I was reading the paper over lunch when I came across the news. Please accept my sympathies on your loss and express my sympathies to Jeff as well.

Sincerely,...

Mary Lou all my thoughts are with you and your family today. Please know I share in your loss of your husband Charles. I wish I had the words to comfort you at this time. Just know I send my love to you and yours. May Our Lord hold you in the palm of His hand and give you the strength at this very difficult time. Love and Peace, Mary-Ellen

I met Chuck when I was 15 and he started dating my sister, Mary Lou. At the time I was worried about his taking my sister away from me, so I didn't like him very much. When he married my sister I soon discovered that I had not lost my sister, but I had gained a "brother" and a dear friend. He was part of my life for 45 years. His death leaves a large void not only for me but for all who knew and loved Chuck.
