Charles Farring Hawkins

I just came across this obituary for Chuck. Is it too late to find out how he passed away? He was married to Glenda, my dear and long-time friend of over 50 years. I'm shocked to hear he passed and so soon after she did.

I miss both my Uncle Chuck and his wife, my Aunt Glenda, who died earlier that year. Uncle Chuck was a very knowledgeable man; who had an unmistakable, contagious laugh; and was one of the most proudly patriotic people I'd ever met in my life. May they both RIP :,(

I went to school with Chuck in Ninilchik, Alaska. Practiced basketball with him. He was a little older than me. Always a gentleman. Visited with him years later when I was living in Manhattan, Kansas, and he was stationed nearby at Fort Riley.

I met Chuck Hawkins when he was stationed at Fort Riley. We went skiing at Winter Park in Colorado and hunted pheasants many times in Kansas. I will miss my friend.

Was a close friend from early 1960s, many hours together in college classes, slogging through Florida Swamps in Army Ranger School, serving together after our time in VN and ultimately as defense contractors all across Asia. Chuck was a great soldier and a finer man. He cut a wide swath and is missed.

Chuck was a giant among men. Lived next to me in Manhattan, KS in the mid 70s. I visited his homestead two or three years ago and fished. Great guy with a broad view in things China. Will miss him. Chuck Jones '68
