RememberingCharles B. Hayward"Learning...Always Learning"You hear his voice, far away at first. As you walk closer, his enthusiasm and mirth magnetically draw you toward him. You wonder, "Who is speaking so compellingly in this museum gallery? You round the corner and come upon a group of people...

Not sure what to say?

My late father and I took a classical tour of Greece with Chuck and Irene in 1989. It was a wonderful experience. Chuck was so well-versed in the country's ancient history. I have fond memories of him and Irene.

We had great times traveling with Chuck and Irene. We were lucky b to have them as as trawl guides and, more importantly, as friends.

as a former neighbor from 1966-1989 on 48 Eton St in Springfield i can still remember Mr. Hayward (as i was just 5-28 years old ) back then, his gift for gab and distinct voice are what i remember most along with their kind actions looking after my father Joe Rakus when my mother Shirley passed 2006. To Kathy , Matt and John our thoughts and prayers from our families

Mr. Hayward was my art instructor at BayPath from 1969-1971. He had a big influence on my regarding art and life. I´ve been reading these wonderful tributes to him and all of them are so true. He was enthusiastic, sincere, kind, always a smile and so happy to see you. I would have been at his Memorial today, but my husband and I am currently in Ireland. I´ve been thinking about him a lot while here. As we were walking in The Burren, we stopped at one of the ancient places where you leave an...

I only met Chuck once - at an art show the Monson Arts Council sponsored. We had a truly lovely conversation, he explicated a delightful work of art for me, and I have a warm feeling in my heart for him. So sad he passed away before we could meet again!

I was so sad to hear the news of Mr. Hayward. He was one of my art professors at Bay Path "Junior College" from 1976-1977. When people ask if there was any teacher or professor that was inspirational in your life, I always say it was Mr. Hayward. I was one of three art majors at Bay Path during those years, and Mr. Hayward would always make time to advise on both art history essays and studio classes. I´m very sad I could tell not tell him how much he influenced my life.

To the family and loved ones of Chuck Hayward, Mr. Hayward was my art teacher in 8th and 9th grade at Kiley Jr. High. He inspired me in so many ways and it is thanks to him that I pursued a career as an artist, art teacher, and art therapist. I had always hoped I would run into him at a craft show where I exhibited my work or through some other venue so I could let him know the positive impact he made on my life. Regrettably, I should have worked to make that happen. It is said, "One who...

Dear Kathryn and family, The unfortunate news about Chuck´s passing has really shocked us. He was to us as he always said: our American Dad. We were even calling for his birthday from our vacation on Gran Canaria and shared with him the beautiful view from our hotel balcony via Face Time. At the time he was already in the hospital but he sounded so healthy and positive. He was about the best person on earth we have ever known. We will always cherish the wonderful memories we have with...
