I was so sad to see that Chuck had left this world. My father, Wally Schaetzke, trumpet, played with Chuck many times and when he quit playing, still came to listen to him often. We would go to Chicago too. When my dad would enter the place, Chuck would say "here comes the late, great Wally Schaetzke" My dad got a kick out of that. I have had the privilege of knowing Chuck since my freshman year in high school as a teacher, mentor, employer, a patient and most importantly, a friend. I do not think that I would have ever attained my professional training and education without the persistent insistence by Chuck that I must always try to do my very best and to do more, better, and not be mediocre and complacent with my talents and abilities. I will deeply miss Chuck's influence and friendship........his music will live on...

Your music will live on through the decades as will the wonderful memories from Sacramento and LA Jazz Festivals you have left for us.

My sincere sympathies to all of the family. I will always cherish the special memories of Chuck teaching Missy and Toofer to swim in the backyard pool when we were next door neighbors. Chuck's love for his craft was obvious as he would spend his summer afternoons, holed up in his basement, replacing pads and straightening keys on 100's of clarinets for the Milwaukee Public School Music Program.
