Mr. Charles Henry Johnson, Jr., 49, of Houston formerly of Beaumont, Texas passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023 in Houston, Texas.


The Celebration Services for Mr. Johnson will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church (3350 Washington Blvd.- Beaumont, Texas 77705) under the direction of Mercy Funeral Home. A public viewing will be held for Mr. Johnson from 12:00 noon until 5:00 pm on Friday, March 31, 2023 at Mercy Funeral Home Chapel and visitation on Saturday, April 1, 2023 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am at the church, with the practice of social distancing and facial masks required.


 


                                                       Obituary


Mr. Charles Henry Johnson, Jr. was born August 1, 1973, in Galveston, Texas.  He departed his life on Sunday, March 19, 2023.


He attended Beaumont Public Schools and was a 1991 graduate of Westbrook High School.  Charles served 10 years in the Marine Corp from 1991-2001 and received an Honorable Discharge.


He accepted Christ at an early age at Sunlight Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. G. W. Daniels.  He was a member of the Jr. Choir, Jr. Brotherhood, and attended Sunday School, BTU and Vacation Bible School.


Charles was joined in marriage to Syretta Johnson, February 14, 1995, he gained a bonus daughter Kierra Parker and to that union a daughter was born Ashlei Johnson.  On August 18, 2018 he was joined in marriage to Natyra Johnson and gained a bonus son Jaeden Templeton. 


After his discharge from the Marine Corps, he worked at the Stiles Unit in Beaumont Texas as a Correction Officer before moving to Macon, Georgia.  While in Georgia, he worked as a Deputy Sheriff at BIBB County Sheriff’s Office.  After leaving the Sheriff’s Office,  he worked at Central State Hospital as a Certification Instructor for several years before he moved back to Texas.  In Beaumont, he worked as a Correction Officer at the Jefferson County Jail where he attended the Police Academy and graduated on November 18, 2021. Charles then began serving as a Constable with Harris County Precinct 4 until his untimely death.


Charles leaves to cherish his memories: his wife Natyra Johnson, his mother Barbara Barry, his father Charles Johnson, Sr;  two daughters Ashlei Johnson (DeQuan) & Kierra Parker (Demetris) and bonus son Jaeden Templeton; one sister Kimberly Perkins (Ralph); one brother Aaron Barry (Taylor); one granddaughter Aubree; niece Brooklyn Perkins, nephew Jordyn Cormouche; three-step sisters Faticha Barry, Shaila Bean, Cedra Gobert, one step brother Anthony Barry, Sr; and a host of other relatives and friends, nieces and nephews.

I had the pleasure of working with Officer Johnson for a brief time in Beaumont. He was a very nice person and always funny and respectful. So sorry to hear of his passing. I will be praying for the family he left behind.
