Snodgrass Funeral Home Obituary

Charles Milton "Bunky" Johnson, 85 years old, passed away on November 12, 2016, at home following a lengthy illness and is now at peace with the Lord. Bunky grew up in Beckley, WV, where he was a multi-sport athlete at Woodrow Wilson High. He played quarterback under the legendary Coach Jerome VanMeter, which culminated in a football scholarship to WV Tech. While at college in Montgomery/Smithers, WV area, he met the love of his life, Mary Ann Bria. Upon his graduation, they married in 1953, raised five children and this year celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this past September. Those who spent any time with Bunky have often heard him introduce Mary Ann as "his bride". His love and admiration for her, their commitment to each other, and their faith have been the foundation of their family. Bunky worked as an accountant early in his career. Being an entrepreneur, he ventured into the coal industry, owning operations in Kentucky and West Virginia, and later owned a real estate and financial services business. His business career was completed while working as a health care consultant for Accordia/Wells Fargo. His drive and work ethic was to be admired and one which his children have strived to model. Bunky was an unconditional loving husband, father, and grandfather. His faith journey which began while in college forever molded his path. He and Mary Ann instilled and modeled a strong faith in our Lord and Savior. His favorite pastime was his family. He was 100% dedicated to his wife, children, and grandchildren. He loved sports, adored and fully appreciated his wife's cooking, and truly valued his church family at Blessed Sacrament. Bunky is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann Bria Johnson, son Tony, son Mike (Cindy), daughter Margie, daughter Bernie (Chuck), son Nick (Kelly), sister Shirley Biggs. Bunky has also been blessed with thirteen grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Visitation services will be Tuesday, November 15, 6:00–8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 16, 11:00 a.m. Both services will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church, 305 E Street, South Charleston, WV, with Rev. John Finnell officiating. Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston, is in charge of the arrangements. The Johnson family would like to thank Crossroads Care and Hospice Care for all the love, support, and care extended to our dad and family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bunky's memory to Hospice Care of WV, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W, Charleston, WV 25387.

Our sympathy to the entire Johnson family upon the death of Mr. Johnson. We send prayers for comfort and peace during this very difficult time. All our love.

I was deeply saddened to hear about Bunky. He truly seemed to enjoy life and I genuinely admired him. He was the consummate role model and had a hand in molding the gray matter of a young man - boy - of low character in need of direction. While driving to Seebert - I threw out the sadness to embrace the remarkable person he will always be in my heart and mind. Your family and you are in my *thoughts and prayers, Doug *Keep this a secret. If this were to get out - it would sully the...

My condolences to the Johnson family. I always admired Bunky and his sense of humor. My prayers are with you guys.
