Charles F. “Charlie” Kline, 61, of Chattanooga, TN, formerly of Winchester, passed away on Wednesday morning, April 23, 2008, at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga.
Charles was born on January 27, 1948, in Winchester, the son of Charles L. “Buck” Kline and Ettis L. Orndoff Kline. He graduated from Handley High School, Class of 1966. Charles was a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force during the Vietnam era. He then continued his education, focusing on teaching others, which was one of his special gifts. He first taught school in Henrico, Co, VA. Later he taught school in Lunenburg Co. and eventually was appointed the General Supervisor of Education for Lunenburg County, Virginia. Charles later moved to the Eastern Shore and accepted a position as Superintendent of Schools in Accomack County, VA. He decided to change careers and went back to school receiving his law degree. He lived and practiced law in Lake Worth, FL, for over 15 years. He recently moved to Chattanooga and opened a new practice. Charles always remained committed to helping others, and his bright personality allowed him to touch the hearts of many.
Charles met his wife, Ellen in October 2000. She was a student in some of his law classes in Lake Worth, FL. Charles and Ellen were married on June 1, 2007. Charles is survived by his wife Ellen and her daughters, Caitlin Nichole Shu and Cherieanne Morgan Shu and son, Christopher Michael Shu of Chattanooga, TN; his sons, Charles Matthew Kline and Trip Baisden of Richmond, VA; his daughters, Lindsey Margaret Kline of Lake Worth, FL, and Ashley K. Burnette of Rochester, NY; his grandchildren, Harrison A. Baisden, Remington A Baisden and Kennedy Burnette; Gene Kline of Richmond, VA, mother of his children; his sisters, Carla Kline Baker and her sons David C. Baker and Michael L. Baker of Winchester, VA and Ina Rae Kline Crisman and her husband Timothy S. Crisman and daughter Samantha L. Crisman of Strasburg, VA; his nephew Charles Lynwood Kline of Winchester, VA.

Charles is predeceased by his parents, Charles L. and Ettis O. Kline; his bother, Lynwood M. “Woody” Kline; and nephew Karl Frederick Kline.
Pallbearers are “Boo” Snider Bill Hall, Danny Hoopes, Ben Dick, Matt Kline and Trip Baisden. Honorary Pallbearers are Bill Myers, Bobby Schenck, Paul Milton, James Baden, Freddie Cather, Tim Crisman, Bill Preston, and Lewis Hannah.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 28, 2008, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, Winchester. A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church on East Washington St. in Strasburg, VA. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery in Strasburg. A reception will be held immediately following at the home of Charles’ sister Ina Rae Crisman at 170 W. Queen Street, Strasburg, VA.
