Died February 15, 2006

BLOOMFIELD HILLS - Charles P. Kovary of Bloomfield Hills, Frankfort and Interlochen, was born Oct. 25, 1943, and passed into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior from the Saginaw Veterans Hospital on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006.

An Allen Park High School and Ohio Military Academy graduate, "Chuck" or "Charlie," as some fondly remember him, proudly served as a Medic in the United States Army, stationed in Bangkok, Thailand, for four years.

Upon return from active duty, Chuck attended Oakland Community College, earning a Bachelor of Arts.

He was employed by Penn Central Railroad prior to establishing a local excavation company. He was also active in international ground transport and motor freight. Due to failing health, he recently retired.

Chuck enjoyed animals, family and home life, motor sports, and travel and adventure. He also enjoyed building and excavation, jewelry design, beach water, and sun and sand. Chuck collected and restored classic autos and antiques.

He was a member of the VFW, Lions Club and the Eagles.

Chuck was once married to Sandra J. Galbraith of Rapid City. He is survived by a son, Charles E. (Tina Stachnik) Kovary of Buckley; stepdaughter, Dana M. Lamphier of Elk Rapids; Uncle Chuck and Aunt Dee Howey of Trenton, Aunt Charlotte Reader of Tennessee, and Aunt Dorothy and Uncle John Maruska of Canton.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Orville C. and Hazel Howey; and parents, Elmer and Louise Kovary.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

The family requests that all memorial contributions be made to a veterans hospital of one's choice, the USO or America's Homes for Heroes Foundation in honor of those currently serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Arrangements were made by the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska.

This obituary was originally published in the Record-Eagle.
