Charles "Chop" Frederick Manderville was born in Paterson, NJ on December 30, 1932, to the late Abe Manderville and Geogie Knox-Manderville. After a lengthy illness, he transitioned from this life on Good Friday, April 10, 2009. Charles attended Paterson Public Schools and graduated from Central High School. Many remember "Chop" as a premiere saxophone player. He first played with Will and the heartbreakers before starting his own jazz band, Chop and the Hi Fi's. He played throughout the Tri-state Area. They performed at wedding receptions, dances special affairs, as well as informal and formal engagements. He worked in the clothing industry. First as a sales person at Clifton Clothing, Wallington, NJ, Bonds Men's Clothing Store, Willowbrook Mall, Wayne, and Newark, NJ and New York City locations. Charles also worked in sales at Jacobs 29 in Paterson. When he retired he was working as a tailor at Katzen's Uniforms in Newark, NJ. Chop had a fondness for fine clothing, jewelry, watches and loved his Cadillacs. People remember Chop warm sense of humor. He could be a joker at times. Chop had class and loved the finer things in life. As a young boy Charles was enthusiastic about the saxophone. His older sister June took him the Apollo Theatre where he listened to the greats and he was inspired to take lessons. Charles enlisted in the Air Force in 1952 during the Korean War, He played in the Air Force Band where he had the chance to travel and play around the world. In 1986, he entered into a glorious union with Lenora Gray, Whom he cherished and shard the final years of his life. Lenora lovingly supported Chop until the end. Charles loved his family and friends. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Abe and Georgie Knox-Manderville; two sisters, Suzanne (Crawley) and Dorothy Manderville; a brother, Thomas Manderville and 2 loving pets, Tut and Lady. Charles leaves to mourn his passing: his wife, Lenora Manderville; sister, June A. Thomas; five daughters, Faith Smith (Robert), Denise Manderville, Robin Acrey (William), Jill Keyes (Thomas), Lisa Manderville; and one son, Charles F. Manderville, Jr. (Sharon); 13 grandchildren, Jabbar, Chere, Little Charlie, LaToya, LaTasha, Butchie, Brandon, Jennifer, Corey, Aschley , Tiffany, Britanna and Whitney; 12 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends; his favorite son, Sebastian and special friend, Robert Batchelor.
