Not sure what to say?

My deepest sympathy goes out to the entire Mathes family. I have known Doc for many years. Our friendship goes back to Austin High, on thru Austin-East, and as members of the Green Turf golf association. During the summer months Doc, myself, and 3 other Green Turfers had a standing date to play golf on Monday mornings at Whittle Springs golf course until Ieft Knoxville. Rest on my friend. Your unique personality will be greatly missed. A good friend.

My wife and I were so sorry to hear of the passing of Carlton's Father. We met Carlton and Audrey at the Eastgate Senior Center in Chattanooga and think highly of them. We are sure if we had know Mr Mathes we would think of him in the same way. We just had to send this message. May the peace of God keep you always.

May the God of love continue to comfort you.
Mr. Mathes was my friend and mentor.
Rev Williams

Please accept my deepest sympathies.

Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Bill Mathis was my high school teacher in cooking in 1960 and 61.To me he was a great man and taught me a lot about life and how to make a living. When I would come to town I would always look him up and thank him. Although I live Texas, I will miss him.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, during this difficult time. Mr. Mathes will be missed.

Dr. Mathes was a former colleague at Austin-East High School; in fact, he was the first person I met when I arrived at AE in 1984. I have considered him a friend from day one. Dr. Mathes was a great educator; he had high expectations of his students and was always willing to give extra help. He had a unique gift of nurturing students and mentoring colleagues in his own special way. He will be greatly missed by the educational community and by the east Knoxville community he loved so...
