Not sure what to say?

You're still there Chuck. Just yesterday at Fort Hood I was having a drink with some young West Pointers a couple of whom played football there. I mentioned that you had played football there also, and that you had given Sam-D it's name in 1976 as "The Patriot" as you requested funding for that Air Defense System. Greatly loved and missed still. God Bless you Ann.

An excellent commanding general and gentleman. It was an honor to serve in your command

Ann,
Just learned of Chuck's passing last night. We were out of town most of August and early September.

When I first met him, he was the SAM-D (Patriot) PM. I was the HQDA Patriot System coordinator. We had a struggle to bring Patriot to fruition and I was proud to work on the team with him. The things I learned from him served me well in my career and especially my tour as a PM.

Marianna and I were saddened to hear the news and sorry we missed the service.

Dear Annie & Family,
It was with much sadness, I read the clipping my sister Peggy sent me from the E.L Review. I know we haven't kept in touch over the years, but Dick and I remember with great fondness the years we grew up together in East End, going to the old Star Theater, Thompson Park Pool, Garfield Elementary, taking the bus to E.L. High School, the football games..so many dear and fond memories..and the parts you and Chuck were intertwined in our early years. You have our...

Ann, you have my deepest sympathy in the loss of Chuck. I recall how kind and thoughtful you were to me during the loss of Frances. May God Bless and comfort you during this most difficult and challenging period of your life. Phil Mason

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

MG Charles F. Means is a magnificent soldier and patriot. An officer with the highest moral and integrity standards. Maintained high military standards and led by example. Ann and Chuck are the truest example of a loving Army couple. Always concerned about their soldiers and families. A mentor and caring leader. He was the most professional commander I served in my 30 year Army career. I had greater respect and admiration for Chuck Means than any other commander I served. I love Chuck and...

Mary Jo and I were so sorry to hear of Chuck's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I am very sorry we were vacationing in Europe and didn't hear of Chuck's death until we returned this weekend. As you know I always looked up to Chuck and considered him my mentor and role model for my military career. He made a major contribution to our country and was a positive influence on many young soldiers both officers and enlisted. We will miss him.

My father, Louis Smith (now Louis xxxxxxx) was a classmate of Chuck Means and called him one of the finest athletes at his high school. While they only had one class together, the General (as dad called him) remembered him and they had a wonderful e-mail relationship. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family and the General's wife who worked at the East Liverpool movie theater in high school.
