Not sure what to say?

Dear Chuck,
You and Dorothy are among the delights of my life in Del Mar. I so enjoyed sitting at your kitchen table visiting and talking politics. Thank you so much for your advice and support. I will miss you.
Your friend,
Crystal

Memories of Charles –
“Fetching” “ neat” “nifty” – Charles often used these words – words from another age, but words I loved hearing him use as they were always spoken with delight and a twinkle in his eye.
In my mind, Charles and his wife Dorothy have always epitomized elegance and beauty - physically, mentally and spiritually. Aside from being a very handsome couple themselves, they surrounded and submerged themselves in all the beauty life has to offer. Always...

My mom and Dorothy (Charles' wonderful wife) were best friends from junior high school. So as a child growing up in the 1950's we got to know the Newton family. Charles was one of the most wonderful people in our lives. He was kind, thoughtful, brilliant, down to earth and a pure delight to be around. I and my siblings (Frank, Lucy, Becky Nicholls) are so sad to hear this news. We send our love and deep sympathy to the family.

I am Chris Chapman's sister-in-law Judy. I met Charles a few times, but in reading his accomplishments and contributions, I'm sorry I did not know him better. What a gem he was! My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. May your heartaches soon be replaced with smiles and laughter as you remember the good times.

I am one of the 5 grandchildren and I can say from personal experience that he was an amazing man. A wonderful soul that I'm looking forward to seeing again some day. I believe he was the wisest man I knew, which is a shame that the world lost another one. There was so much to learn from him. I will miss him greatly. Love you Grandpa

To the Newton family: Please be comforted that Charles had a long and good life. His closeness to the natural speaks for the man he was. Anytime a fellow gardener passes, I am saddened and look forward to see what he's got growing in Heaven. Rest in peace Charles. We will continue to enjoy the family you and Dorothy created.
