Charles Allen "Chuck" Perry, 78
LEXINGTON

Charles Allen "Chuck" Perry, 78, husband of Sherlan Austin Perry, passed to his Heavenly home on July 28, 2025, at his residence in Lexington, Ky., following a courageous 28-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on January 21, 1947, in Frankfort, Ky., he was the son of the late E. Paul Perry and Mary Lucille Hatchett Perry.
Chuck was a devoted servant of Christ whose ministry touched countless lives across decades and continents. Ordained in 1969, his calling to preach began much earlier-at just 11 years old, he delivered his first sermon at Fairview Christian Church in Washington County, Ky. A graduate of Kentucky Christian University with a master's degree from Morehead State University, Chuck faithfully served as a minister for over 56 years in churches throughout Kentucky and Missouri. Even after leaving a church, his pastoral care never ceased; he continued to shepherd and support members of every congregation he had served.
His passion for missions led him to travel the world, participating in and leading dozens of mission trips to developing countries through Mission Journeys. Chuck was also a proud co-founder of Sugarloaf Christian Camp, a ministry close to his heart. In addition to preaching, Chuck's love for photography became a meaningful extension of his ministry. He served as the official photographer for the University of Kentucky Band for more than 30 years and was a freelance photographer for UK Athletics, covering cheerleading, dance, men's and women's basketball, football, gymnastics, volleyball, baseball, soccer and swimming. He also served as a photographer for the North American Christian Convention. Through every sermon preached, mission undertaken and photo captured, Chuck's life was a testimony to his deep faith, compassion and commitment to sharing God's love.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Sherlan Austin Perry of Lexington; his brother, Ernie Wayne Perry (Pam) of Lexington; and a countless number of spiritual children. Chuck was deeply loved by hundreds who considered him family-he was known for dropping by their homes at all hours for a visit, a shared meal, or even a quick power nap. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and lasting connections wherever he went.

Not sure what to say?

I was sad to hear of Chuck's illness and passing. I have great memories of camera times (shooting college sports together) in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He was always kind, funny and generous. May good memories bring you comfort and peace.
