Charlie would let my friends and myself stand in the doorway at the Penthouse Jazz club when we were 15- 16 years old to listen to Miles Davis. We were all just beginning to be jazz musicians and he gave us the opportunity to listen to the master. Thanks Charlie for your kindness and understanding. Many of the musicians that played at the Penthouse came to a Jazz club where we played called The Llahngaelhyn near the U district. He unified the Jazz community

I use to stand glued to that tiny window of The Penthouse to listen to the music pouring on to the street from the bandstand from some of the greats of Jazz. I'll never forget Mr. Puzzo inviting me in to listen, knowing full well I was under age and without covercharge. I thought that was extraordinary.

I worked for Mr. Puzzo for a time doing some odd jobs on his property before I moved away from the area. Charlie always treated me well and respectfully we had a great trust with one another. He was always there to great me with a cold drink and a sandwich after a hard days work hauling firewood and clearing brush. He was always a pleasure to be around. I think of him from time to time. My condolences to the family even though a little late. -Steve Power

As a lifelong friend of Charlie's daughter, Toni, I have had ample opportunity through the decades to feel the blessing of him in my life, too. I think in many ways, he taught me how to be a good host because of the never failing way he made you feel welcomed and valued. He will be missed, but I have to feel that if the party hadn't already started in Heaven, then Charlie will show them how it's done.
Thank you Joyce and Toni for sharing him with the rest of us.
