So sorry to learn of the loss of someone I knew only through his John Constable scholarship but always admired enormously for sharing his research so generously. A remarkable, admirable man.

I'm celebrating that I didn't yet die of my melanoma on the cover of my book, Melanoma Mama: On Life, Death, and Tent Camping

I'm so sorry I missed this news and the memorial service. I was an art history major (Reed '69) and I recently renewed my friendship with Prof. Rhyne during alumni events. I was pleased to see the mention of photographs as part of his teaching tools. In the sixties, I earned $1.25 per hour binding and labeling his slides as part of my work-study grant at Reed. The slides were sometimes missing key information, and I enjoyed browsing wonderful art texts to add the info to the labels. Art texts...

Charles, you will be missed.
I have not seen you much since I graduated from Reed, but our interactions there have stayed with me. Thank you for guiding my studies, and providing an example of a lifestyle worth emulating.
