my grandpa charlie rice was the glue him and my grandma lucy rice to our family they both meant the world to me and i miss them both so much they will never be forgotten ever i will always keep their memories alive they are my family

This morning I just opened my ears for his playing at the recording with Chet Baker on April 10 1979 in Holland as to hear on Blue Room. Thanks.

This man was like a father to me , here in Detroit Michigan. My grandma owned a four family flat , I lived down stairs with my parents and siblings, he lived upstairs. He use to take me to his band rehearsals, I was probably 7 or 8 . He use to cook dinner for me. One day he sent me a letter saying he had to leave, I cried that whole day , he sent me some beautiful gifts. And that was the last time I heard from him. I wondered through the years what happened to him, I loved him like he was my...

He was like a father to me if this the same Charles Rice who lived in Detroit in the 50´s I was a kid , he use to take me to his rehearsals at a club he use to play at. I have a lot of good memories of him , I wondered throughout the what ever happened to him.

I knew charlie through his son in law Ronnie Coleman (rip) and came to love,and respect him,and also enjoy talking with him about his many exploits in this art form jazz.the last time i saw him,i gave him an old eddie l Iockjaw album,with charlie on drums.may God forgive him of any sin,and accept the good he has surely sent forth for his soul.we love you charlie,and will pray for you always,Rasheed Al Jawar a friend.
