As GIs, Charlie Rixse and I were classmates at the Armed Forces Information School, Fort Slocum, N.Y., in 1951 or '52. We kept in touch sporadically over all these years, and in fact, when my son Eric graduated from Haverford College and was hired as a reporter for the Arkansas Democrat, the Rixse family put him up until he could get settled on his own -- a tremendous help to an Eastern kid who had never been away from home before. My deepest sympathy on the death of your father, a good man. Charles hired me almost fifty years ago when I was 17. He was publishing a magazine for an insurance firm. Initially, we didn't know his mother, Myrtle Brewer and my grandmother, Lula Brewer Kumpe were sisters. I have some Rixse and Brewer genealogy if you're ever interested.
