Read MoreMy sincere condolences to the Rooney and Murphy families. I just learned of his passing this evening. Mr. Rooney was one of my favorite teachers at St. Peter's Prep. He was a very kind and patient teacher. I also had Mrs. Murphy in Seventh grade at OLV.
His influence directed me toward a lifelong career in math.

I want to express my condolences to the Rooney family especially son Charlie who was a classmate & friend. I can still hear Mr. Rooney's voice chiding some under performing student..."You're wasting your time son"...always said with a sincere sadness which had its desired effect of challenging & opening the eyes of said student. He was a quality teacher and good man. God Bless.

I was sorry to hear of Mr. Rooney's death since he was one of the first people I met when I started at the Prep in '47. I belive we were one of his first classes after he came out of the Army. He instilled in me an appreciation of math to the extent that I went on to study engineering when I went to college. He will always be a Legend of the Prep for me.

My sincerest sympathy to Mr. Rooney's family. You do not grieve alone. I know there are multitudes like myself whose lives he profoundly touched as a fine teacher and perhaps the greatest proponent of the Prep experience and all that it stands for. He was a true American original and one of the most memorable characters that ever graced the Prep family.
