Heavenly Gate Funeral Services Obituary

Charles Henry Sells was born on February 6, 1946, in Orange, Texas to the proud and loving parents, Imagean and L.C. Sells, Sr. They reared him in Jasper, Texas. In his very early years, he spent a lot of time with his maternal grandparents Arch and Ollie Runnels Traylor. Accepting Christ at an early age, he became the kind-hearted, humble, and one of the hardest working men we knew. in Jasper. He graduated from J.H. Rowe High School in 1964. He moved to Grand Prairie, Texas in 1968. Charles met and married the love of his life, Farris Dean McGriff. They united in holy matrimony on November 6, 1970. From this union, three children were raised in love. Travis, Keith, and Sherie were the apple of his eye.

The importance of family was instilled in Charles from birth. The eldest of 10 children, he learned the value of Character, Humility, Accountability, Responsibility, Leadership, Excellence, and Strength. All these qualities describe the man we came to love, respect, and adore. These virtues were evident as he worked tirelessly to provide for his family. Charles labored many years at GAF, construction worker, Jim’s Janitorial Service, business owner, and Rooms To Go maintenance department, where he retired in 2013.

As hard as Charles worked, he played even harder. He loved to laugh, entertain, the Dallas Cowboys, eat (especially sweets), and dance, dance, DANCE! His smile and large presence will be greatly missed. He was a friend to all and never met a stranger.

We will miss hearing the lovely way he complimented women and his famous 3 sayings: “Do you hear me/feel me now?!”, “Can you dig it?”, and “Don’t get it twisted!”

He is preceded in death by Mother, Imagean Sells; Grandparents, Ernest and Viola Sells (paternal), Arch and Ollie Runnels Traylor (maternal), Brother, Cecil Ray Sells; and Grandson, Rodrick Karlin, Jr.

Charles leaves to cherish his legacy, wife of 50 years: Farris Dean Sells; Father: L.C. Sells, Sr.; children: Travis (Tanya) Sells, Keith (Danell) Sells, and Tamela Sherie (Rodrick) Epps, Sr.; grandchildren: Jessica Fortner (Murray), Branden Sells (Jazmine), Chalynn Sells (Frank), Syquira Sells and Kiana Alford; great-grandchildren: Andrea Martinez, Ja’Marrie Williams, Aaliyah Fortner, Selita Sells, Leighton Alford, and Layla Newton; siblings: Clidie  (William) Johnson, Henry Lee (Chris) Sells, L.C. (Sandra) Sells, Sr., Jimmie (Jeri) Sells, Joyce (Ervin) Sells, Bettye Anne (Carl) Kennebrew, Sr., Jean Sells and Edward (Anita) Sells; Godchildren: Barnetta Stigler and Christopher Braxton and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends will continue to celebrate his life.
