Not sure what to say?

I had wondered why we hadn't run into Buddy and Rennie at Orchestra Hall for a while. A few weeks ago Betsy and I found out the devastating news of his demise from one of his former partners precisely at a Chicago Symphony Orchestra performance where we often enjoyed conversing with them.
Being a pathologist and he an oncologist brought us close professionally at Michael Reese Hospital. His excellent medical judgement, extensive experience and complete dedication to his patients were...

I am assuming this is the Doctor Shapiro that I had gone to for many years until he retired. Dr. Alan Charles had referred him to me and he was the best doctor ! His manner was such that he always made me feel better when I was frightened. I just decided to go online to try and connect again with him. I have never had a doctor since that I have cared for as much.

I realize that this is more than a year from the time that Dr.Shapiro has passed. I was trying to look him up so as to contact him. I was a resident in internal medicine at Michael Reese Hospital and I had the privilege of being mentored by Dr.Shapiro during that time. I just wanted to tell him thank you and to tell him what an impact he has had on my career and on me personally. He was a brilliant teacher and clinician . He shared with me many of his stories while he was at UC in training ....

I just saw this obituary and I can't express my sorrow. Dr. Shapiro was Armando's mentor and friend for over 40 years and my wonderful physician and friend for 40 years. It would be impossible to say how much he gave to medicine and Michael Reese Hospital. He was a wonderful and caring physician to scores of patients and a teacher to hundreds of interns and residents. His contributions will live on for years to come. We have lost one of the truly great people.

I just heard of Buddy's death and can't express my sorrow. As a surgeon at Michael Reese dealing daily with cancer patients I spent a lot of time with Buddy and he was not only a great doctor, he was a great person. I often wonder how someone can be an oncologist, as it is such hard work not only physically but emotionally. No one did it better than Buddy. The world is now a lesser place with his loss. Hang in there so many people will continue to hold him in their hearts.

He was a mentor to me.

my condolences to the Shapiro family and especially Rennie who has lost her best friend. i worked at Michael Reese Hospital for many years with Dr. Shapiro. he was always willing and happy to teach the IM residents and kept the office staff well entertained with his stories. he was a great man and will be missed by many.

Shapiro Family, I'm so sorry to hear that Uncle Buddy passed away. He was a great man.... smart, kind, funny.

I first met Bud about three years ago when he joined our bridge foursome at the local senior center. The last time we played together was only two days before he died (we won!)

Afer he joined us, we soon found that when we parted, we felt better about ourselves (and very much so about him!). Bud had an empathetic manner and also had that unusual gift of gently phrasing a question that made one think. He and his family were close and did a lot of travelling together. He had been to...
