E.S. Eley & Sons Funeral Chapel, Inc. Obituary

Charles Lee Smith Jr. was born December 8, 1947, to Mary Rosalyn and Charles Lee Smith Sr.

He was educated in the Kansas City school district, graduating from Lincoln High school class of 1966.

After high school Charles joined the US Navy where he served in the Vietnam War, after being Honorable discharged he returned home to Kansas City. He was employed at Lane Blueprint while there he became the Lead Print Officer and Head Graphic Designer.

In 1984, the Lord blessed Charles with his only child a son, Charles Robert Smith “Bobby” whom he loved and adored dearly.

Charles had many hobbies but the one he found much joy in was serving the Lord!  He was a faithful and active member of St. Mark Union Church, there wasn’t one thing Charles didn’t have his hand in; the Deacon Board, Treasure Board, Food Pantry, Outreach and Many more.

If you knew Charles, he was all about family he loved being with his loved ones weather it was just sitting back having a good laugh, talking about sports or going out fishing and relaxing listening to Jazz especially SADE (his favorite).

Charles was preceded in Death by his father, Charles Lee Smith Sr.; both maternal grandparents, Alice and Edward Thomas; his paternal grandparents, Elva and Edward Hornbeck; uncles, Maurice Hornbeck, John and Edward Thomas Jr.; nephew, Keith Green.

There are no goodbyes for us, wherever you are, you will always be in my heart, Love Charlie.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his son, Charles “Bobby “Smith; 2 grandsons Jeremiah and Charles Smith; mother, Mary R. Smith; 4 sisters, Margorie Green, Danise Bruce, Debra Dancer and Kimberly Dale; 2 brothers, Halim Gharmin and George Dale and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services for Mr. Smith will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 10, 2021, at E. S. Eley & Sons Funeral Chapel.  Burial Leavenworth National Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. until service time Friday at the chapel.
