Not sure what to say?

My late father was one of the friends Dr. South used to take out on fishing trips on his boat. I'm not sure if they became friends at Canby Union HS or in the Army, but they were friends and freshman roommates at the Campbell Club men's co-op at UO. I remember as a child those visits from "Chuck," as dad referred to him.

My belated condolences to Dr. South's family and friends.

My sympathy goes out to Charles South's Family at this time. I di not know him, but I am a Family Historian doing research on my "South" Family and Dr. South is in my family records as being related to me, so I thought I would send a brief message.

Uncle Bud will forever live in my mind as larger than life. There will never be enough people in the word like him.

Memories of Uncle Bud.....
-the kite you made of newspaper and flew so high when we lived in Lufkin and I was four or five;
-summers in Coos Bay and we couldn't wait for UB to arrive for a visit:
mountain picnics and finding the perfect place in the stream for Grandma's water melon then skipping stones in the stream before we went back for lunch (boy, you were so good at it!);
-Bastendorf Beach where we all explored the tide pools and played in the surf until our skin turned red...

My sister and I grew up fishing with Dr. South and our dad Dr. Fisher. Such wonderful memories. Our sympathy to all of you. Janet-please feel free to contact me-my sister Pam said you were in touch. Sue Fisher Tellam

Nephew by marriage, friend by choice. Lasting memories of Chuck with his darling sister (Babe) as he fondly called her. Each basking in the beauty of the Black Canyon while leaning on a wooden rail and no doubt recalling wonderful events of childhood. Or perhaps gasping at the majesty of Old Faithful in Yellowstone. I yearn for a family picnic with one of his stories ending with a familiar "You betcha." I never had the privilege of sailing on the Southwind, but I see him at the wheel...

Doctor South was a trusted collegue,always courteous,friendly and kind. An outstanding physician and surgeon and always ready to help. He contributed so much! He will be missed by many.

Dr. South was a gentle and compassionate physician whose dedication to quality and patient care was unsurpassed. Whether it was my mother's breast cancer surgery or my emergency appendectomy, he exhibited the same solicitude for our personal well-being as for our physical healing. His unfailing courtesy and gentleness were outstanding. He will be deeply missed. My prayers and deepest sympathy go to his family.

My family, including my parents, had great affection and respect for Dr. South. He was truly one of a kind. He was known to transport a patient in his own car from Physician's and Surgeon's to Good Samaritan Hospital on at least one occasion. A truly compassionate healer.
