My deepest sympathy goes to my beloved nephews and niece. Charles became my brother-in-law when I was a teenager, and I will always remember his kindnesses toward me, and his unflagging, humorous patience with me as he tried to teach me chess. As much as I am saddened by his passing, I am also comforted by thinking that he has met up with my own husband, Bill, who died in 2000.
