James A. McAlister Funerals & Cremation Obituary

Charles “Chuck” C. Sullivan, Jr., husband of Joyce Huthmacher Sullivan, passed away on December 19, 2017. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Sullivan, Jr., are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 23, 2017, at the First Baptist Church of St. Andrews Parish. Burial, with Military Honors, will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at the graveside, Beaufort National Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, Saturday, at the church. Online condolences may be made at www.CharlestonFunerals.com.

Chuck was born in Charlottesville, VA on October 23, 1964, to Charles “Carroll” C. Sullivan, Sr. and Sandra Breeden Sullivan of Stanardsville, VA. He went on to proudly serve 21 years as a Radioman Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy Submarine Force.

He was supported and survived by his wife, Joyce Huthmacher Sullivan of 27 years; his sister, Salita Sullivan (Karen Klie); his in-laws, Roy and Vivvian Huthmacher; and children, Charles “Chip” C. Sullivan III (George A. Pivik), Ashley S. Dunlap (Timothy E. Dunlap, Sr.), Christopher W. Sullivan and Jessica L.E. Sullivan. He was further blessed to be made a “Papa” to two grandsons, Jonathan “Lil J” and Timothy “Teddy”.

One of Chuck’s greatest passions in life was being a father and grandfather, but also being a coach to more than 400 athletes over the years. Through their “Heart and Hustle”, each player being as important to him as the last.

Chuck lived for those around him, as a brother in Christ, deacon of First Baptist of St. Andrews Parish, “adoptive” uncle and father, and mentor and leader to both the military and the surrounding communities. Chief “Sully” Sullivan served with distinction from 1984 to 2004 in the following commands: USS Casimar Pulaski SSBN-633, Submarine Training Facility (Charleston, SC), USS Batfish SS-310, USS West Virginia SSBN-736, Trident Training Facility (Kingsbay, GA), and USS Tennessee SSBN-734. “Rest your oars, Chief. We have the watch.”

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of St. Andrews Parish, 913 Wappoo Rd., Charleston, SC 29407 or to the AEDAllicance.org. Arrangements by JAMES A. MCALISTER, Inc. (843)766-1365.

Not sure what to say?

Dear Sullivan Family ... Our deepest heartfelt condolences for your tremendous loss. Please know we hold you near in heart, thought, and prayer.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.

You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Our condolences for your loss. We will continue to hold your family close in prayer.

Good bye, Chuckie. You will be missed by friends old and new. Even though we have not spoken for several years I will always have fond memories of growing up together in Stanardsville. Your family is in my prayers.

Heartfelt condolences in fondest memory of one of the most caring and humble men that I ever proudly served with. The meek are those who are gentle, humble, and unassuming, simple in faith and patient in the face of every affront. Imbued with the precepts of the gospel, they imitate the meekness of the Lord, who says, "Learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart" as well as "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth."

Rest well Chief, we have the watch.

Our thoughts and prayers will always be with the family and Chucky will sadly be missed always and forever.

Sending our heartfelt condolences to you all and hoping that you may take comfort in knowing of the many lives he touched during his own lifetime.

On behalf of the United States Submarine Veterans (USSVI), I offer our sincere condolences on Charles' passing. You and your loved ones are in our thoughts and prayers. We are forever grateful for Charles' service to our country in the U.S. Submarine Service. To our Brother of the Phin we say, Sailor, rest your oar. We have the watch. May you rest in peace and may God bless your loved ones who remain. Thank you for your service to our country.

"Now may the Lord of peace Himself...
