Charles C. Summers of Isaac Creek Road, Clarksburg, died Sunday, May 8, 2005 in the home he shared with his surviving wife, Lois Esther Masten Summers, whom he married March 23, 1938. Mr. Summers was born August 17, 1917, in Pleasants County, WV, the son of the late Joseph N. and Florence P. Haught Summers. Charles was a decorated WWII Veteran, having served as a sharpshooter with the U. S. Army and having received a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster. After the war, he entered the glass business, apprenticing as a glass cutter in Oklmulgee, Oklahoma. Later returning to his home state of WV in 1956, Charles worked for Fourco Glass in Clarksburg and then retired from the Jerry Run Plant. Mr. Summers was a member of the Central Church of Christ of Chestnut Street in Clarksburg, WV. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Orie and Bill Summers, and by four sisters, Mary Weekley, Jessie Christian, Violet Cline and June Potts. He has three surviving sisters, Zelma Grove and Betty Campbell of Friendly, WV, and Twila Hanlin of St. Mary’s, WV. Surviving are four children: Joseph and Louella (Edwards) Summers of Isaac Creek Road, parents of granddaughter Sherri (and David) Craddock, and great granddaughter Hannah Scott of Lumberport; and grandson Timothy Joseph (and Janet) Summers and great grandson Jeromy Sparks and great granddaughter, Jamie Starling and great great grandson, Caleb Starling, all of Akron, Ohio; Patricia and Dennis McCormick of Martinsburg, granddaughter Rebecca Jo (and Steve) Treadway, and great grandchildren Madison, Steven and Kendall Treadway, grandson Clark (and Kristi) McCormick and great grandsons Mason and Wyatt, all of Beckley; Doreen and Caird E. Rexroad, Jr., of Grambrills, Maryland, and grandson Caird E. Rexroad, III of Inwood, WV and granddaughter Leah (and Adam) Harrell of Crofton, Maryland; Florence and David Lough of Clarksburg, grandson Charles D. Lough of Beckley, grandson Joseph A. (and Melissa) Lough and Ashley, Julia, John, Christopher, Nicholas and Heather.
Family and friends may call at the Davis Funeral Home, One Olen Thomas Drive, Rt. 98, Clarksburg, Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8pm, where funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 11th at 11:00am. Evangelist Perry Henegar and Darrell Henderson will officiate. Interment will be in the WV National Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post #3081 American Legion Post #12 and D.A.V Chapter #24, all of Grafton.
